Hey, what about those pirates over there?

With all the world's attention trained on pirate activity in Somalia and the Gulf of Aden, it's a great time to be a pirate somewhere else.

Last week, there were a couple of pirate attacks in that other pirate haven: southeast Asia. (See my post on Top 10 most dangerous places for pirate attacks - 4 southeast Asian locations in the list). The attacks are a little less sophisticated. In one case, five pirates armed with long knives only boarded a container ship, attacked the ship's master and stole the ship's cash before making a getaway.

While attacks in northeast Africa swamp the number of pirate incidents elsewhere, pirates in the rest of the world must be glad that their comrades in Somalia are taking all the heat.
